Tips For Buying A New Horse

Whether it is business, marriage, or buying a new horse, it's best when you have the right partner. Take your time selecting a horse for yourself, don't feel like you have to be in a hurry. You wouldn't run out and buy the first pickup you saw. You'd want to test-drive a few of them before deciding. Take the time to really do a good search in order to find the best one for you. If you don't have alot of experience, ask someone who does to go with you to help.

Decide what you want to do with your horse. If it's pleasure trail riding, you won't need a show-ring performance horse. Know what you want to do with the horse. Make a budget and stick to it. Ask your veterinarian to perform a pre-purchase exam to make sure the horse is in good health. Be honest with yourself. If you are a novice rider, a green rider on a green horse spells disaster waiting to happen.

If you are just starting out, an older, experienced, gentle horse is what you need. When you finally make a decision, go back to see the horse more than one time. You might even show up unexpectedly. Watch the horse being saddled and unsaddled and how he reacts to being handled. Make sure he's everything you want before you pay!
