Today's Horse Training Tip

Today's Training Tip: Horse-human relationships start from the ground. If your horse doesn't respect you it's not wise to climb on! Their fight/flight instinct is strong & all it takes is a "flicker" to set his mind in motion that it should take action. Watch for these disrespectful attitudes: not paying attention, moving into your space, being pushy, not leading on a loose lead/leading you, fidgeting, kicking, pawing, nipping.

To get your horse broke on the ground, you need him to understand that YOU are the one that moves him, and it's not the other way around. However if getting your horse to move out of your space is done with too much energy, whether that energy is aggressive or just too assertive, your horse may become fearful & lose confidence in you. To prevent this, you need to have relaxation. That is the key to a trusting relationship. When your horse is relaxed, he will believe that everything is okay. There are no threats, no dangers, your horse will feel confident & safe with you.
