Giving treats continued: Before you give treats, teach your horse to stand still & do not give him the treat til he does stand still! Correct him for moving. If your horse comes into your space & starts getting pushy, don't reward him for that conduct. If you give him the treat when he's doing that, you're training him to get aggressive. Let's say I'm working with a horse that's doing good, & I decide to give him a treat. If his head turns toward the treat right away, into "my space", I won't give it to him. I will give a correction for the head movement. I will only give the treat when he stands with his head forward & lets me bring the treat to him. It's not the treat or the horse to blame, just how the treat is given. It's the little things that can end up making a big difference when training a horse.
